How database dumps store data
Relational databases (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite) export data as text files consisting of
CREATE TABLE definitions followed by INSERT INTO statements containing value tuples.
Opening large SQL dumps without a database engine can be tedious. EasyExtract parses the SQL grammar directly in JavaScript to convert raw INSERT tuples into clean spreadsheet CSV files.
How to extract data from a SQL dump file
- Drop a .sql file or paste SQL queries. Select a database dump file or paste raw SQL INSERT statements into the text area.
- Click Extract SQL data. The parser identifies INSERT INTO statements, resolves column headers, and parses value tuples.
- Preview table data. Inspect the extracted rows and column headers in the table preview.
- Export to CSV. Save the extracted data as CSV, download all tables, or copy TSV to paste into Excel.
What gets extracted
- All INSERT INTO tables discovered in the dump file.
- Column names extracted from SQL statements or generated sequentially.
- Values with string quotes and escaped characters unescaped.
Supported SQL dialects
Supports standard MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and SQLite INSERT INTO `table` (`col1`, `col2`) VALUES (...) syntax.
Privacy assurance
SQL dumps contain sensitive customer and application records. All extraction is executed strictly on your local device. Zero server uploads.
Limitations
Binary BLOB fields are skipped or represented as hex strings. Very complex PL/SQL functions or triggers are ignored.
Use cases
- Database Migration — Converting SQL backup tables to CSV for spreadsheet analysis without importing to a DB.
- Forensic Auditing — Quick inspection of database dumps.
SQL Data Extractor vs Excel Extractor
Use this tool for database dumps (.sql). For Excel workbooks (.xlsx), use the
Excel data extractor.
